1. How is SugarMade™ paper made?
A: We use sugar cane bagasse, the fibrous residue left over
after sugar cane has been crushed and the sugar extracted, and
combine it with other recycled fibers to make products that
are 100% biodegradable and 100% recycled.
2. What is sugar cane bagasse?
A: The fibrous residue left over after sugar cane has been
crushed and sugar extracted.
3. Is Sugar cane the same as using recycled material?
A: No. Sugar cane is a post consumer waste product of
sugar. Recycled material is taken from newspaper, plates, or
used packaging which may contain ink or other particles that
would need chemicals to change the color or clean the product.
Compared to sugar cane, we do not use any bleach or chemicals
to alter the product.
4. What do you mean by post consumer waste?
A: Post consumer waste is left over material that would be
typically thrown away, or in this case burned in the fields,
after its intentional product use (sugar). Sugar cane is
crushed for the sugar we use in our coffee, cooking, and other
household uses. After the sugar is extracted, the sugar cane fibers are typically burned up which creates pollution into
the air.
We not only eliminate the pollution into the atmosphere but
also create earth friendly products using these fibers.
5. If using sugar cane is better why isn't your product 100%
made out of sugar cane?
A: Sugar cane fibers are strong and rough. When producing
our tissue line we know it is not only important for our
clients to be 100% biodegradable but also soft to the touch.
We implemented 17% recycled material to make our product not
only remarkably soft, but also 100% earth friendly and
100% biodegradable.
6. Is your product septic tank safe?
A: Yes, it will degrade fine in septic tanks.
7. How long does it take for your product to biodegrade?
A: In best conditions, our product will degrade in 45 days.
8. What can I do to fight global warming? / How does recycling
and using recycled products help?
A: Simply by choosing recycled products you are supporting
to intact forests for the preservation of flora and fauna,
helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and making a stand
in the fight against global warming.
